The radiology department is run by Dr Adamos Paraskevas who has had an extensive training and gained huge experience in general radiology. The department consists of state-of-the-art imaging machines with some of them being the latest and best available option for patients in Cyprus.

Spiral CT

CT scanning provides a non-invasive diagnostic examination that can investigate any area of the body, and allows the radiologist to assess the nature, location and extent of a disease.

  • Abdominal/Pelvic CT Scan

    Useful for diagnosing diseases (including cancers) of the stomach, gastrointestinal (GI) tract, urinary system, spleen, pancreas and appendix.

  • Chest CT

    Simultaneously visualizes the lungs, heart, bones, soft tissues, muscle and blood vessels. It is useful for identifying lung disorders, such as tuberculosis, old and new pneumonia, tumors, emphysema and lung fibrosis.

  • CT of the head

    Useful for providing detailed information on head injuries, sinus disorders, stroke, brain tumors and other diseases of the brain.

  • CT of the sinuses

    Provides important information about the sinuses and nasal structure. It is useful for diagnosing sinusitis as well as tumours (eg cancers).

  • CT Scanning of the Spine

    Useful for detecting spinal column injuries, fractures or tumors; evaluating the spine after surgery; determining narrowing of the spinal canal; infection; herniated disks; or degenerative diseases such as arthritis.

Ultrasonography (ultrasound scans) -General Electric LOGIQ® 5 ultrasound system

Ultrasound scanning uses high frequency sound waves to create an image of part of the inside of the body, such as the heart. As sound waves are used rather than radiation, the procedure is safe. Ultrasound scanning is particularly useful in obtaining diagnostic information for the following organs:

  • Thyroid gland- cysts, adenomas, carcinomas
  • Cervix- cysts, adenomas
  • Breast- cysts, adenomas
  • Abdomen- kidneys, spleen, liver, gall bladder, aortic aneurysm
  • Pelvis- bladder, ovaries, prostate
  • Carotid Doppler eg for carotid stenosis
  • Peripheral vessels and veins

Portable ultrasound (Titan)

Portable ultrasound machines are typically used in situations where space is limited, mobility is important, or the scanning must be done in the field.
It is used by many of our doctors including the gynecologists, cardiologists, endocrinologists and of course radiologists.

X-ray Department

The X-Ray department of Nicosia Polyclinic consists of 3 rooms and is equipped with the latest contemporary equipment resulting in excellent image quality and the lowest possible radiation dose. The department machines perform:

Since our equipments are digital, the process of having an X-Ray is much faster allowing the image to be reported more quickly.

Nicosia Polyclinic has recently purchased the Stephanix-Cannon Digital Dynamic Remote System (D2RS) which is the best fluoroscopy and radiography machine available in Cyprus. This device ensures patient comfort in all applications combined with brilliant image quality without compromise.

Portable X-ray and Fluoroscopy

Our surgical theatres are equipped with an advanced portable fluoroscopy machine (Phillips BV300 C-ARM). This machine is particularly useful in orthopedic operations involving fractures were the surgeons need to visualize the alignment of the bones and ensure that they have been returned to their normal anatomical position.

Osteoporosis tests – DEXA

Our X-Ray department has an advanced imaging machine (General Electric Lunar) which delivers rapid scans with excellent quality at low dose. Its improved technology detects subtle bone changes in a variety of clinical applications and provides:

  • Total Body bone health assessment


Nicosia Polyclinic features an advanced mammography machine; Kodak Direct View CR 850 System which offers the most up-to-date technology in breast cancer screening and providing high diagnostic reliability.

International standards recommend a baseline mammogram for every woman, starting at the age of 40. Screening mammograms should be obtained at least every two years thereafter.

Digital mammography is significantly better than film mammography for screening women either under the age of 50 with very dense breasts, or for pre or peri-menopausal women of any age.

Digital Panoramic & Cephalometric X-Rays (Head and Dental X-Rays)

Nicosia Polyclinic features a technologically advanced X-Ray machine which specializes in obtaining Head and Dental X-Rays.

The KODAK 8000C Digital Panoramic and Cephalometric System manages to capture standard cephalometric views in seconds with excellent image resolution and quality.

Our machine supports various different views of the teeth allowing full and comprehensive imaging and in the same time providing great diagnostic potential. These different view include: temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ), maxillary sinus as well as all standard cephalometric views: lateral, oblique, antero-posterior, postero-anterior, submento-vertex and carpus.

Dr Adamos Paraskevas, MD

Consultant Radiologist

Dr Paraskevas qualified from the Medical School of the University of Craiova, Romania in 1989. His initial postgraduate training was in the general hospitals of Limassol and Nicosia before moving to Greece where he trained as a radiologist in Thessaloniki from 1992 to 1996. Dr Paraskevas is a member of the Cyprus Medical Association and the Cyprus Radiology Association. Since 1997 he is the leading radiologist and director of the Radiology department of Nicosia Polyclinic.
